APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND APPLICATION FORM FOR DISTINGUISHED INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP
The Distinguished International Students Scholarship was established by the Ministry of Education of China to sponsor those outstanding international students who have been enrolled by the designated Chinese institutions as Master' s or Doctoral candidates or are currently carrying out their Master' s or Doctoral studies in Chinese institutions. The Ministry of Education of China has entrusted China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to administer the scheme.
1. Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship
1). Master degree students: 2-3 academic years
2). Doctoral degree students: 3 academic years
The duration of the Distinguished International Students Scholarship could not be extended.
2. Application
Applicants are required to submit their application to CSC through the recommending institution; the time for application is normally from early April to late May every year.
3. Eligibility
1). Applicants must be international students currently studying in the designated Chinese institutions and in good health.
2). Applicants must be those who have been enrolled by the designated Chinese institutions as Master' s or Doctoral candidates or are now carrying out their Master' s or Doctoral studies in those Chinese institutions, with an average score above 85 and with excellent performance in conduct.
3). Applicants for master degree studies must be under the age of 35, and applicants for doctoral degree studies must be under the age of 40.
4. Details of the Scholarship
1). Full scholarship:
a. ----exemption of registration and tuition fees, free basic learning materials, and free accommodation.
b. ----provided with the same free medical care as the Chinese students
c. ----monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the institution at the following rates (CNY yuan per month):
w master degree students: CNY 1,100 yuan
w doctoral degree students: CNY 1,400 yuan
2). Partial scholarship: One or some of the above items of the full scholarship.
5. Application Materials
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly.
1). Application Form for Distinguished International Students Scholarship (printed by CSC and could be downloaded from the web site of CSC http://www.csc.edu.cn ), two copies.
2). Study plan (no less than 800 words).
3). Transcripts of every year' s study in China.
4). Copy of Admission Notice as master' s or doctoral degree student.
5). Recommendation letter by the Chinese institution in which the student currently studies.
The above documents should reach CSC before June 15th of 2004 sent by the recommending institution, CSC does not accept individual application.
6. Approval and Notification
CSC will review the application materials it received from the recommending institutions. Qualified candidates will officially be awarded the scholarship (which might be a full scholarship or a partial scholarship). CSC will then send a confirmation letter, called the "Confirmation of the Distinguished International Students Scholarship", by July 15th, to the applicants via the recommending institution.
