APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR CHINESE CULTURE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Chinese Culture Research Fellowship was set up by the Ministry of Education of China to sponsor international experts in field of Chinese culture to carry out short-term research in China. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) is authorized to administer the recruitment and the daily management of the scheme.

1. Research Area and Ways
1). Applicants shall be engaged in the fields such as Chinese language, literature, history, philosophy, education, economics, ancient architecture, history of art and traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.
2). The applicants should be supervised by a Chinese supervisor or cooperate with Chinese professors in the appointed Chinese institutions of higher education to carry out their researches.

2. Application
1). The applicants could directly apply to CSC for the Chinese Culture Research Fellowship or via the institutions, scholars, which have contact with China or Chinese diplomatic missions.
2). The duration of the fellowship shall not exceed 5 months. It is kindly advised that the research be carried out between March and July or September and the following January according to Chinese academic calendar.

3. Eligibility
1). Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals, in good health and under the age of 55.
2). Applicants must hold professor, associate professor titles, or must have obtained doctor degree.
3). Applicants must hold fixed profession engaging or mainly engaging in Chinese culture research, and have published some works or papers in this field.

4. Details of Fellowship
1). ----exemption of research fee, and free accommodation
2). ----provided with free emergency medical care service
3). ----monthly research subsidy, the standard is CNY 3,000 yuan
4). ----provided with data and materials subsidy, the standard is CNY 750 yuan (once only)
5). ----after getting the approval of the supervisor or the cooperating professor, render the account of the academic tour which is necessary on the basis of the research plan, the standard is no more than CNY 1,000 yuan.

5. Application Materials
The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly.
1). Application Form for Chinese Culture Research Fellowship (printed by CSC). One original, one photocopy, in Chinese or in English.
2). List of publications; documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or in English.
3). Study plan written in Chinese or in English ( no less than 800 words):
4). Letter of recommendation by the person in charge of the working institution; documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or in English.

Applicants shall submit the above application materials to CSC 3 months earlier before the date they apply to come to China.

6. Approval and Notification
After receiving the application materials, CSC, within 45 days, will entrust relevant experts to process the application materials and shall send the Confirmation of Chinese Culture Research Fellowship, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the awardees directly or through the Chinese diplomatic missions in the applicant??s home country.
