Prospectus for International Students

 

 

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), one of the key universities in China, is characterized with sciences and engineering integrated and well-developed as an educational institution of engineering, sciences, management, humanities, economics, law and pedagogy. BIT is found among the first higher education institutions ever approved by the Chinese government for key universities and permitted to set up a graduate school.

 

BIT Consists of 13 Schools: School of Information Science and Technology, School of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, School of Life Science and Technology, School of Material Science, School of Chemical Engineering and Environment, School of Management and Economics, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Sciences, School of Mechatronic Engineering, Design and Art School, School of Computer Sciences and Technology, Software School, School of Foreign Language; Graduate School, 4 branch schools (area) and 43 research institutes/centers.

 

BIT offers 55 Bachelor programs, 132 Master programs, 61 Doctoral programs and 14 post-doctoral stations. There are 3000 teachers and researchers working at BIT, including 4 Academician of China Academy of Sciences, 9 Academicians of China Academy of Engineering, over 1300 professors and associate professors, 230 supervisors for Ph.D. students. Total student enrollment is 38000.

 

International Student Education

BIT has developed International educational cooperation and student exchange programs in various forms and fields and set up intercollegiate relations with 80 overseas universities. BIT is open to international students either sent by CSC, foreign governments, school to school exchange or supported at personal expenses. Programs including: Bachelor Degree, Master’s Degree, Doctor’s Degree, Standard and Advanced Class of Refresher’s Courses, Researcher and Scholar Program, Chinese Language Study and Short-term Training programs. There are about 400 international students from 31 countries studying at BIT, 70% of them are studying for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degree. BIT also offers Ph.D. programs in English

 

Teaching of Chinese Language and Professional Training

BIT International Student Center offers 12 classes of 8 grades yearly on the Chinese language and culture plus short-term workshops for foreign universities on the Chinese language and cultural study and professional training which are diversified in form and contents to fit well into international student education. International Student Services

BIT, staffed with a great number of world-known experts, scholars and outstanding teachers, offers a splendid campus and the 1st class facilities for teaching and scientific researches. The university was once appraised as “Excellent for Undergraduate Teaching” by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and found as one of the first Chinese universities ever setting up postgraduate schools for the training of higher quality personnel. In addition to the rich resources of talents with the teaching staff, BIT provides good living conditions and services. The International Student Center (ISC) is fully dedicated to the international student affairs, from student enrollment, teaching management, to logistics and services as well as to educational exchanges and cooperation for international students.

    Note: Chinese (Mandarin) is the principle teaching language. BIT also offers programs in English for advanced student, researcher and grouped students under special arrangement.

 

Procedure of Application

 

A. How to apply and when to apply?

Please contact to International Student Center (ISC), BIT for Application Forms and materials. Application Forms and relative documents must be submitted to ISC by registered mail.

 Bachelor candidates should apply before June 10.  Master’s and Doctoral Candidates should apply before December 10. Chinese Language students should apply between November and January for spring semester. The application between May and July is acceptable for autumn semester.

    The spring semester starts from beginning of March & autumn semester is from beginning of September.

B. Entrance Examination:

    For Bachelor Candidates is held on 14 to 15 of June. For Master’s and Doctoral Candidates are held in late of January by BIT. Chinese language students may take the examination after registration for classification of their own Chinese level so that they may choose a proper class level to study.

C. Entry Visa and Registration :

With the BIT Admission Notice, JW202 Form (visa form), private passport and personal health examination report, prospective student may go to the Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for entry visa to China. Usually student will be issued an X status visa to study in China for more than six months or an F visa for less than six months. 

    Students should register at the International Student Center Office, Room 1144, Central Teaching Building and follow the registration schedule specified in BIT Admission Notice.

    To register, a student must submit the Admission Notice, JW202 Form, and a health examination report by original test result. To register in a regular study program, students need to have an X-type visa.           

 

D. Budget:

Chinese Language & Culture Programs

 

In order to help foreign scholars and students to master Chinese language, furthering their research, teaching and study in the future, International Student Center of BIT runs 12 Chinese language and Culture classes in 8 levels for long-term study. In each summer and winter vacation we also run short-term course on campus. Presently BIT has received students from more than 31 countries such as U.K., France, United States, Japan, Korea, Canada, Germany, Australia, Sweden, New Zealand, Mongolia, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, etc. Every semester foreign students are satisfied with their lives here, both in and out of the classroom. Many of them also have enjoyed the rich cultural and historical heritage of Beijing.

 

Teaching Hours and Activities

Long-term Chinese Language and Culture Program

It usually gives 5 half days (20--22 hours) class instruction a week by professors and lecturers, 16 weeks / one semester. Cultural visits such as trip to the Great Wall, Big Bell Museum, etc., student get-togethers are also organized for long-term students without extra charge.

 

Short-term Chinese Language and Culture Program

It is about 4-6 weeks short term programs providing 5 day morning classes (3-4 hours a day) a week, and cultural visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, as well as cultural activities such as Beijing Opera, parties with Chinese students and Beijing Roast Duck dinner, and visit to business companies. Curriculum

The Chinese Language courses generally include Pronunciation, Grammar, Conversation, Listening, Writing, Reading, Newspaper Direction, Chinese Literature, Chinese Culture, Chinese Survey, Computer Application in Chinese, Multimedia Course, HSK and practical activities. In some courses, students can learn how to go about practical daily activities in China, such as, going to see the doctor, going to the post office, or shopping in the local market. The curriculum’s breadth has met the special demands and interests of students. You can choose specific classes as you see fit for your levels. As such, 8 levels of Chinese language courses are offered ( Beginning, Fair, Good, Excellent ). More courses in English are available for grouped English spoken students.

 

Textbooks are all approved by the Office of Teaching Chinese for Foreigners, P. R. China, with explanations in English. We specially provides the every material for foreign students’ options.

 

Classrooms and the Center of International Students are both located in the Central Teaching Building, helping to facilitate contact between students & their advisors when students need assistance. The bright and spacious classrooms are all air-conditioned.

 

Tuition:   Long-term: RMB16400.00 per student for one academic year.

          Short-term: RMB3280.00 per student for 4 weeks.

Application Fee: RMB410.00 per student. Includes Registration Fee, Student ID, Certificate.
