Chongqing

Known as a famous"Mountain City" ,Chongqing covers a large area crisscrossed by rivers and mountains,so people seldom ride bikes.And it is the youngest municipality of China's four municipalities.It is situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers in southwest China.

Ethnic Minority Group
Chongqing is inhabited by 50 ethnic groups, including Han, China’s majority, Tujia, Miao, Hui,etc.Among them,the Tujia people are the largest,and the whole minorities make up 6.37% of the total population by the end of 2003.

Climate
Chongqing is in the sub-tropical climate zone swept by the moist monsoon. The average annual temperature of the city is around 18℃, It has mild winter, hot summers.It often rains at night in late spring and early summer, and thus the city is famous for its “night rain in the Ba mountains”.

Cities and Highlights
Chongqing is a famous historic city with more than 3,000 years of brilliant culture, symbolizing Yangtze River civilizations and is the cradle of Bayu culture.Now it is the commercial, industrial and transportation hub of Southwest China.
Chongqing is the starting point for the Yangtze River Cruise, which explores the stunning scenery of the three Gorges. The Three Gorges,with high cliffs standing face to face on either side of the Yangtze, forming a natural gallery of arts,and each of the three gorges has its special charm.

Dazu Grottos,one of the four well-known grottos in China,is a relic that worthy of visiting.The steep hillsides in the Dazu area contain an exceptional series of rock carvings dating from the 9th to 13th centuries,all of them are carved lively and elaborately.

Fengdu Ghost City:Town of Fengdu, said to be the abode of devils, is one of the first stops on your Yangtze River cruise. Here the famous 'ghost City' is deserved to visit.

Ancient Ci Qi Kou village ,which can be traced back for more than 1700,lures tourists to linger in its streets to buy handicraft souvenirs.And there are three notable attractions of the village are the tea houses,the artists' studios and the Shu Embroidety workshops.

Other attractions including Gold Buddhist Mountain, a rich repository of diverse animals and plants; and Fishing Town, one of three ancient battlefields in China;the scenery along valleys on the Wujing River, Jialing River, and the Daning River; and the beautiful lakes.

Great Taste
Chongqing is the birthplace of Sichuan Cuisine.So it is featured by spicy foods.Among them,the pot dishes is the most famous,it is known for its "spicy, hot, delicious and crunchy" taste as well as a harmonious and warm atmosphere.
